UPDATE: Brad Childress Hired

"Chilly" is a good fit in Cleveland

3:00 PM Update:  Our Prediction from yesterday looks like it will work well.

NFL REPORTER JASON LA CANFORA TWEETS- “Brad Childress has agreed to terms to be Browns offensive coordinator. Has strong ties to that offense and coach Shurmur #insideslant
After such a horrendous year of playcalling by Head Coach Pat Shumur, first on the Browns agenda is getting an offensive coordinator.  From the vibes that were getting recieved at the press conference a month ago, I can only assume the man they bring in will call the plays over Shumur. But it now seems like this is a lie.  Unfortunately it seems like Shumur loves calling plays too much to abandon that post.

The first thought is assistant coach with the Green Bay Packers, Mike Sherman.  He is a Packer just like Holmgren and if he does not go somewhere else he would be the hire.  But thats not the case.  It seems likely at this point that he takes the Head Coach position with Miami.  The second candidate is Brad Childress.  Former coach of the Vikings, who has accumulated a lot of experience.  Just like Jauron, (Former Bills Coach and now DC) I think this man would be a good hire.

One of those two men will most likely receive the job in Miami.  With that said NFL Network’s Jason LaCanfora believes that one of the two will end up landing in Cleveland “almost certainly,” as the offensive coordinator.  Back to the “inner promotion” talk, I believe that is not the case.  It seems they would not have waited this long if they were just going to promote a quarterback coach on there own team to the offensive coordinator!

PREDICTION:
Browns hire Brad Childress, and he takes over on the play calling

Not a bad hire. Chilly and Shurmur worked together under Reid. Naysayers will spin this a just another Holmgren tree hire but the man was good enough to be a HC and also good enough for teams this year to come calling when they were looking for a HC.

Agree Rick. People may hate Chilly, but I think he will work out like Jauron did. Not many liked Jauron with his HC position in Buffalo, but he brought experience and skill to the Coordinator side.
